Paasonen Wiik Duo is a new Finnish/Norwegian collaboration between the incredibly talented young Finnish fiddler Justiina Paasonen and seasoned Norwegian folk music guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Magnus Wiik. The duo focuses primarily on Paasonen’s core repertoire of Finnish and Swedish music, and also explores the link between the Scandinavian and American fiddle traditions. With their debut album scheduled for release in 2027, this will be an exciting collaboration to follow over the years to come.

Justiina Paasonen is an emerging fiddler on the Finnish folk scene, and her fiddle playing has generated a buzz throughout the Scandinavian scene. Having studied at the renowned Sibelius Academy as well as dug into Norwegian hardanger fiddle stylings in Rauland she has a deep personal musical style shaped by a broad understanding of nordic fiddle music.

Magnus Wiik has toured across the globe with his own projects and as a sideman on a wide array of instruments for 20 years. He has been awarded prizes, released around twenty albums of original music and performed on some of the biggest stages for this music in Europe. He is a much sought after musician and performs regularly with Bríd Harper, Tellef Kvifte and Open String Department to name a few.
